POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (April 22, 2022) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced the 2022 Women’s Water Polo All-MAAC Teams and Major Award winners. All awards were voted on by the league’s nine head coaches.
Kalista Hyham of La Salle was named the 2022 Women’s Water Polo Co-Offensive Player of the Year after she scored 104 goals on 181 shots for a .575 shot percentage. She totaled 135 points, 61 steals and 31 assists. The Huntington Beach, CA native was also named the 2022 Preseason Co-Offensive Player of the Year.
Wagner’s Abbey Simshauser was named the 2022 Women’s Water Polo Co-Offensive Player of the Year. The Sydney, Australia native scored 90 goals on 173 shots for a .520 shot percentage. Simshauser scored 142 points, totaled 52 assists and 46 steals to help lead the Seahawks to a
32-3 overall record.
LIU’s Elena Camarena was named the 2022 Women’s Water Polo Co-Defensive Player of the Year. The Madrid, Spain native totaled 37 steals including a season-high of five against Cal State East Bay. The sophomore attacker scored 54 goals on 102 shots and was also named a Preseason All-MAAC Team selection.
Myriam Lizotte of Marist was named the 2022 Women’s Water Polo Co-Defensive Player of the Year. The Gatineau, Quebec native totaled 74 steals, 11 blocks and 21 assists. The senior also earned All-MAAC First Team honors in 2021.
Madeline Schultz of Marist was named the 2022 Women’s Water Polo Rookie of the Year. The Tinley Park, IL native earned seven MAAC Rookie of the Week awards this season and totaled 109 goals on nearly 49 percent shooting. Schultz also recorded 36 steals, nine blocks and nine assists.
The 2022 Women’s Water Polo Coach of the Year is Wagner Head Coach Ciaran Wolohan. Wolohan is in his third season at the helm for the Seahawks and recorded his best season to date including a 32-3 overall and a 16-0 MAAC record en route to earning the number one seed in the MAAC Championships. Wagner finished the season ranked 13
th in the country according to the most recent CWPA Poll. This marks the second highest the program has ever ranked (Ranked 12
th in 2018).

The 2022 MAAC Water Polo Championship is a four-team, single elimination tournament taking place April 23-24 at the McCann Natatorium on the campus of Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. All games will be streamed live on ESPN+ and tickets can be purchased on
