EDISON, NJ (June 1, 2022) – Canisius Cross Country runner
Turner Dirrigl was named vice chair of the
Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in its executive board election.
Dirrigl, along with Yale Women’s Golf Captain Ami Gianchandani will each have a vote on the Division I Council with the responsibility of vice chair. Brynn Carlson of the University of Missouri will serve as the DI SAAC Chair and will hold a vote on the DI Board of Directors.
Dirrigl, since joining Division I SAAC as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference's representative in 2020, also has served on the Division I Student-Athlete Experience Committee and the Olympic Sports Liaison Committee.
As the chair of the MAAC SAAC, Dirrigl aided with the QPR suicide prevention training initiation for all MAAC athletics staff to go through. It was passed and will now be mandated by the conference. He also helped with an LGBTQ event that promoted inclusion at a sporting event on each MAAC campus.
“Turner's leadership, creativity, and passion for helping others has been incredibly impactful within MAAC SAAC,” MAAC Director of Championships & Compliance Taylor Wood said. “His positive influence and inclusive spirit will be of great service to student-athletes across the nation as he starts this new role.”
A native of Buffalo, NY, Dirrigl is a four-year member of Canisius College’s Cross Country/Track & Field teams. He has earned MAAC All-Academic honors a combined nine times across Cross Country, Indoor Track & Field, and Outdoor Track & Field.
Dirrigl’s term begins its one-year term today, June 1.
