Loyola University Chicago Joins MAAC Women’s Golf as an Associate Member for 2022-23 Season

EDISON, NJ (Aug. 10, 2022) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) today announced the addition of the Loyola University Chicago Ramblers as an associate member in the sport of women’s golf, voted on and passed unanimously by the MAAC Council of Presidents on July 12.

“The MAAC would like to welcome Loyola Chicago as an associate member for the 2022-23 academic year,” noted MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “In this period of time with conference realignment, the MAAC looks forward to providing Loyola Chicago with a temporary league as they transition to their next phase. We are looking forward to hosting them at the 2023 MAAC Golf Championships at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in Orlando, Florida this spring.”

Loyola Chicago spent the last nine seasons as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference in women’s golf. The Ramblers have also been a member of the Horizon League for women’s golf and won the Horizon League Championship in 2004.

“We are excited to be joining the MAAC in women’s golf for the 2022-23 academic year,” said Loyola Chicago Director of Athletics Steve Watson. “Thank you to MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor and the Council of Presidents for providing this opportunity for our student-athletes to have a championship experience and compete against quality programs, including a few of our new rivals from the Atlantic 10 Conference.”

Loyola Chicago wrapped up the 2021-22 season with an eighth-place finish at the MVC Championship in April, led by a fourth-place individual finish from senior Lorenza Martinez. The Ramblers also earned a pair of MVC honors, with Martinez securing an All-Tournament Team nod and sophomore Abby Thielbar garnering All-MVC distinction. Overall, Loyola Chicago has produced a total of 14 all-conference selections in the history of the women’s golf program.

With the addition of the Ramblers, MAAC women’s golf membership remains at nine teams for the academic year, with the removal of Hartford as an associate member. Loyola Chicago will join MAAC full members Fairfield, Mount St. Mary’s, Niagara, Quinnipiac, and Siena, and associate members Albany, Dayton, and La Salle.

The 2023 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships will be held at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, FL from Friday, April 21 through Sunday, April 23. The MAAC has held its Golf Championships at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course since 2015.
