EDISON, NJ (Jan. 20, 2023) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced the 2023 Preseason Coaches’ Polls for men’s and women’s tennis, as voted on by the league's head coaches. Fairfield University was selected as the men’s preseason top choice and Quinnipiac University was unanimously chosen as the women’s preseason selection.
The Stags collected 47 points to lead the men’s poll, earning five first-place votes. Fairfield has won five total men’s tennis championships dating back to 1991, last claiming the team title in 2012. Despite not winning a MAAC title in over a decade, the Stags have qualified for seven out of the nine tournaments since 2012 and have played in the championship final twice, in 2013 and 2020-21.
Siena College was tabbed second behind Fairfield, receiving 41 points and one first-place vote, while Marist College and Quinnipiac University tied for third-place with 29 votes to round out the top three. Niagara University (28) was selected fifth and picked up the final first-place vote, Mount St. Mary’s University (12) was chosen sixth, and Rider University (10) closed out the preseason poll in seventh.
Quinnipiac, the defending women’s champions, were the unanimous favorite, earning all seven first-place votes for a total of 49 points in the women’s poll. The Bobcats have hoisted six total women’s titles since becoming a member of the MAAC in 2013-14, winning five straight championships from 2014 to 2018, before returning to the top of the league last year in 2022. Quinnipiac has made it to the championship final in all eight seasons that the Bobcats have been in the MAAC, finishing as the runner-up in 2019 and 2020-21.
2022 runner-up Fairfield, was second in the poll, earning 39 points, while 2022 semifinalist, Siena finished in a close third, accounting for 36 points. Niagara (26) was selected fourth, Marist (20) came in fifth-place, Mount St. Mary’s (18) checked in at sixth, and Rider (8) rounded out the preseason poll in seventh.

The 2023 MAAC Men's & Women's Tennis Championships will take place on April 22 and 23 at Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ. This will be the 11
