Quinnipiac Claims Back-to-Back MAAC Women’s Tennis Championship Titles

WEST WINDSOR, NJ (Apr. 23, 2023) – No. 1 Quinnipiac University secured back-to-back league titles, winning the 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Tennis Championship on Sunday afternoon at Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, New Jersey. The Bobcats kept their perfect record against conference teams intact after defeating No. 2 Fairfield University, 4-1, garnering their program’s seventh overall MAAC women’s tennis trophy.

Quinnipiac grabbed the doubles point in quick fashion with 6-1 wins by both the No. 2 and No. 3 flights. In No. 3 doubles, Claire Koscielski and Vera Sekerina topped Laina Campos and Lucie Tuttle. Then, Jordan Bradley and Nikole Lisovyy defeated Francesca Karman and Lize-Alet Morkel at the No. 2 position, to put the Bobcats ahead 1-0. In singles action, Quinnipiac’s lead grew to 3-0 after Lisovyy beat Karman (6-4, 6-3) at the No. 6 spot and Alessia Truden thumped Morkel (6-4, 6-2) in the No. 2 position. Fairfield would erase the shutout and keep its championship hopes alive with a victory in No. 3 singles, behind a 6-2, 7-5 win from Sarah Liu over Kamilla Nella. The championship clincher came courtesy of Quinnipiac’s Sekerina knocking off Fairfield’s Katarina Plumtree (6-3, 6-5) at the No. 4 flight, returning the MAAC women’s tennis trophy to Hamden for the second straight season. It was the Bobcats seventh overall MAAC crown since joining the conference in 2013-14, having won five consecutive championships from 2014 to 2018 in addition to last year’s title.
 
Lisovyy earned 2023 Most Outstanding Performer honors after posting a perfect 4-0 record while also not surrendering a set in singles action during the tournament.
 
Quinnipiac will earn the MAAC automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship. The Bobcats will find out their opponent and match time on Monday, May 1 at 6:00 p.m. during the Women’s Tennis Selection Show on NCAA.com.
