FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team has been awarded their first-ever ranking in a national poll as Top Drawer Soccer places the Stags No. 25 in their latest poll. Fairfield, who has amassed a 14-1-2 overall record including a 9-0-2 mark in the MAAC, has already clinched their second-straight conference Regular Season Championship and will be the top-seed in the MAAC Tournament.
"It's quite an accomplishment for our program to be considered among the best in the nation," Head Coach David Barrett said. "The Top-25 is filled with amazing programs, and to be associated with them, in that conversation, is really great for our athletes and our University."
The Stags currently hold the fourth-highest winning percentage in the nation while tying the most wins in Division I with 14.
Fairfield also holds the second-longest unbeaten streak in the country by getting a result in their last 15 matches.
This success has been shown on both sides of the pitch, with the Stags out-scoring their opponents 46-10 during the season.
Fairfield holds one of the highest-powered offenses in the nation, placing in the top-10 with 2.7 goals per game and eighth with 46 total goals. On the defensive side, the Stags have allowed just 0.59 goals per match, the 12th-lowest in Division I.
The Stags have had a balanced attack offensively with 13 different student-athletes tallying at least one goal and 15 registering at least one point.
The MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, Maddy Theriault has been at the forefront of their offensive unit with 14 goals, placing her seventh among Division I athletes. Sophomore Ashlyn Walsh is also among the national leaders with nine assists, ranking her eighth in the country.
Fairfield, winners of six-straight, has clinched their second-straight MAAC Regular Season Championship and their third in the last four seasons. The No. 25 Stags will close out the regular season portion of their schedule with a visit to Merrimack on Wednesday night at 7pm.
