MONTGOMERY, NY, (Nov. 1, 2025) – Iona University captured its NCAA record 35th-straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday, November 1 at Twin Ponds on the Farm in Montgomery, New York. The Gaels have secured the MAAC trophy every season dating back to 1991 and the program has claimed a MAAC-leading 40 total men’s titles since the inaugural MAAC championship in 1981.
Leading the Gaels was 2025 Men’s Most Outstanding Runner and individual champion, Matt Rankin, who paced Iona with a championship finishing time of 24:11.8 on the 8K course. Rankin became Iona’s 25th consecutive individual champion dating back to 2002.
Iona secured the top 10 spots and had 11 total runners secure a top-15 position to earn All-MAAC Team honors, garnering a perfect team score of 15. Rankin was joined in the top-10 by teammates, silver medalist Baptiste Cartieaux (24:12.1), bronze medalist Bradley Giblin (24:12.1), Ben MacMillan in fourth place (24:12.1), Oliver Boltz in fifth place (24:12.2), Conan Harper in sixth place (24:12.5), Aiden Coles in seventh place (24:12.6), Duncan Robinson in eighth place (24:19.6), Tristan Coles in ninth place (24:19.9), and Billy Coogan in 10
th place (24:24.9).
The 2025 Men’s Cross Country Rookie of the Year was Coogan from Iona. He was joined on the All-Rookie Team by Gael teammate Jackson Jamison who was the final All-MAAC Team selection from Iona finishing in 13
th place, along with Marist’s Issac Gross, Sacred Heart’s Jake Harold and Siena’s Max Decker.

Postseason competition continues on Friday, November 14 at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship which takes place at Hopkinton State Fairgrounds Cross Country Course, Hopkinton, New Hampshire, hosted by Boston College. The NCAA Division I Cross Country Men's and Women's Selection show will air live on ncaa.com on Saturday November 15 at 5:00 p.m. The NCAA Division I Championship will take place November 22 at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Missouri, hosted by Missouri.
