GENEVA, OH (Feb. 12, 2025) – The 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships opened tonight at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio with broken records in three out of the four events completed. On the team leaderboards, both Fairfield University men’s and women’s teams, and Niagara University women’s squad headlined the standings.
Fairfield women’s team started the championships off in record fashion, setting the new MAAC Championship 200 Medley Relay record, with a finishing time of 1:40.61, breaking the previous record time of 1:41.70, which was set in 2024 by Fairfield. The Stags gold medalist featured Erini Pappas, Tone Sandsjoe, Lara Kisakol, and Olivia Thompson. Both Pappas and Sandsjoe were members of last year’s quartet that set the previous record. In the men's 200 Medley Relay, Iona University set the new standard, pacing the field with a record time of 1:26.60, breaking the previous record of 1:27.83, set by Rider in 2018. The Gaels relay team consisted of Michael Faughnan, Matthew Loftus, Kieran Egan, and Nick Patino.
The lone diving event of the opening session featured the men’s 1-Meter Dive. Fairfield’s Andrew Cataldo earned the individual championship, scoring 284.55, to help contribute to the Stags’ leading the team score.
The final race of the night concluded with the third MAAC record falling, this time coming by way of Niagara’s women’s 800 Freestyle Relay team of Natalie Killion, Megan Jackson, Claire Gorton, and Mary Carl. The relay unit claimed first-place in a time of 7:23.19, smashing the old record of 7:29.06, which occurred in 2018 and was set by Fairfield.
