WEST WINDSOR, NJ (Apr. 26, 2025) – No. 1 Quinnipiac University and No. 2 Fairfield University earned semifinal round wins at the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Tennis Championship on Saturday afternoon at Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ. The Bobcats beat No. 5 Siena College, 4-0, and the Stags nipped No. 3 Niagara 4-3, to advance to the championship final on Sunday. This will mark the fourth straight season that Quinnipiac and Fairfield will vie for the MAAC Championship trophy.

Top seeded Quinnipiac swept No. 5 Siena, 4-0 in the first semifinal round matchup of the afternoon. The Bobcats quickly gained the doubles point, snagging wins at the #1 and #3 positions by an identical 6-2 score. The topflight doubles of Willow Renton and Caitlin Flower defeated Laia Giralt and Manuela Gomez, while the #3 doubles pair of Jenna Sloan and Jordan Bradley beat Madeline De Faber-Schumacher and Reegan Mullaney. In Singles, Quinnipiac’s Caitlin Flower garnered a win at the #2 position over Andrea Vargas (6-2, 6-2), to put the Bobcats ahead 2-0. Quinnipiac followed that up with a 6-1 6-3 victory at the #3 spot with Anagha Shankar beating Zaara Omar of Siena. The match deciding point was clinched by the Bobcats’ Vera Sekerina at the #4 position, winning 6-3 7-6 (7-5) over Manuela Gomez. Quinnipiac advances to its 11
th consecutive championship final dating back to 2014, the program’s first season as a member of the MAAC. The Bobcats will look to win its program’s eighth total MAAC postseason title, having claimed the trophy most recently in 2023 and 2022 in back-to-back seasons and for six consecutive seasons from 2014 to 2018.

No. 2 Fairfield pulled out a thriller in the second semifinal match, earning a 4-3 comeback victory over No. 3 Niagara. The Stags secured the doubles point over the Purple Eagles after three tight matches. Fairfield took #2 doubles, 7-5, led by a win from Maeve Cassidy and Sarah Liu over Valeria Margarita Mora Alvarez and Larisa Kotok. They would clinch the point with a 6-4 victory by Liliana Malinowski and Anna Neyestani against Saloni Tamang and Mercedes Velasco Mencos at the #3 doubles. Niagara would go on to claim the first three singles points and take a commanding 3-1 lead. The first point was won at #3 singles, by Larisa Kotok who took down Sarah Liu, 6-1 6-1. The Purple Eagles then took the lead when Isabel Carolina Garcia Torra defeated Anna Neyestani, 6-1 6-0, at the #2 spot. Niagara extended its lead to 3-1 following a 6-3 6-2 win by Saloni Tamang over Nicolette Loeffler at the #4 position. Needing to win the final three singles matches to keep its title defense alive, Fairfield would start its rally by taking the #5 singles point with Liliana Malinowski taking down Valeria Margarita Mora Alvarez, 6-3 6-3, making it a 3-2 match. Then, the Stags would gain the equalizing point at #6 singles, with Maeve Cassidy defeating Mercedes Velasco Mencos, 6-0 6-4. The match would come down to the topflight. Niagara’s Maria Melo won the first set 6-2, but Fairfield’s Victoria Mandma battled back to win the second set 7-5 and then the third and final set 6-2 to clinch the match and propel the Stags back to the title match for the fourth consecutive time and the fifth trip over the past six seasons. The most successful women’s program in league history, Fairfield is seeking back-to-back league trophies and the 12
th overall in program history.
The 2025 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship final will take place tomorrow, Sunday April 27 at 2:00 p.m. with the winner earning the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
