LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ (May 10, 2025) – The opening day of the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships concluded on Saturday evening, with Manhattan University men’s team and Rider University women’s squad sitting atop of the leaderboard.
Manhattan and Mount St. Mary’s dominated the field events, combining to win six out of the eight gold medals that were awards on Saturday in field events. The Jaspers two MAAC individual titles came in the men’s long jump and men’s hammer throw, with Alex Bilello claiming gold in the long jump after jumping 7.04m, while Alex Kristeller got his medal in the hammer throw after tossing a MAAC-best 65.11m. The Mount earned their quartet of MAAC individual championships in the men’s javelin throw, both men’s and women’s pole vault, and the women’s long jump. The Mount’s winners included Brandon Falconer (men’s javelin, 67.47m), Emelie Beckman (women’s pole vault, 3.85m), Arran Fahey (men’s pole vault, 4.95m), and Camryn Jones-Howard (women’s long jump, 6.04m), with Beckman and Jones-Howard marks each setting MAAC records. Also winning gold medals in the final two field events during day one’s action was Kaitlyn Luba from Sacred Heart University, who won the women’s javelin with a toss of 43.11m, and Anya Cunningham of Merrimack College, who won the women’s hammer with a throw of 48.79m.
The first day featured 18 track events, with 14 prelims and four finals. The four final events that capped off the first day’s events were the men’s and women’s 3000m steeplechase and the men’s and women’s 10,000m. Iona University’s reign in distance races resumed as Billy Coogan took the top spot in the men’s 3000 steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 9:02.54. In the women’s 3000 steeplechase, Quinnipiac University Alessandra Zaffina dominated her way to a MAAC-record finish of 10:21.05, 35 seconds faster than the runner-up. The men’s 10k event was won by Christopher DeForest of Siena College, who crossed the line at 32:10.92. The women’s 10k was secured by Rider’s Grace Medei, who won the distance race in a time of 35:41.02.
A fourth MAAC-record was set on the first day of the championship and it was done by Nyasia Dailey from Quinnipiac in the women’s 100m prelims, setting a new MAAC standard of 11.74.
