After a postseason filled with upsets and historical achievements, the 2025 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship culminates on Sunday morning with the championship match between No. 2 Fairfield and No. 4 Iona live on ESPNU and simulcasted on ESPN+. The title contest will feature contrasting programs, with Fairfield who has played in and won the most MAAC championships all-time, going against Iona who will be making its MAAC championship final debut. Iona punched its ticket to the finals with an 11-10 upset victory over top seed and championship host Mount St. Mary's, while Fairfield reached the final with a 16-12 victory over No. 3 Siena on Friday, May 2. Fairfield returns to the MAAC Championship final for the eighth straight year and for the ninth time over the past decade. In total, the Stags will be making their 16
th overall appearance in the championship contest. Fairfield will be in pursuit of MAAC trophy number nine, already owning the most in league history with their eight current titles. Moreover, the Stags are looking to clinch a seventh consecutive NCAA postseason berth – ninth overall since 2009 – which included the first-ever at-large bid in MAAC women's lacrosse history in 2024. Inversely, Iona will play in its program’s first-ever MAAC Championship final on Sunday. Additionally, entering the 2025 postseason, the Gaels had never won a MAAC tournament game until their 15-7, second round victory over No. 8 Rider on Sunday, April 27.
The Stags went 7-1 in the MAAC regular season to earn a share of the program's 16th MAAC Regular Season Championship and owns a 10-7 overall record heading into Sunday. Fairfield is also riding a five game winning streak, the current longest active streak in the MAAC. The Gaels posted a 6-2 MAAC regular season mark and are currently 9-8 overall. Iona has the second longest active winning streak behind Fairfield, which is a three game winning streak, and the Gaels are responsible for snapping what was the longest active streak in the MAAC of seven games which was held by Siena until the semifinal defeat. With the unbalanced schedule in 2025, Fairfield and Iona did not meet during the regular season. The most recent meeting between the two sides was on March 27, 2024, in New Rochelle, NY where the visiting Stags earned a 16-6 win over the Gaels. The last time the teams collided in the postseason was during the 2018 first round, when No. 3 Fairfield beat No. 6 Iona, 14-5, eventually leading the to the first of a five championship-run for the Stags from 2018 through 2023.
The 2025 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship final will be airing live for a national audience on ESPNU. This will mark the first time in league history that the MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship will air live on the linear network.
