James Pazdera, Quinnipiac, Baseball

James Pazdera remains to be a solid piece in the Quinnipiac pitching staff as Quinnipiac went 4-1 on the diamond last week. Pazdera made one appearance last week for the Bobcats and went 6.0 innings, allowing just one earned run on two hits, and striking out eight in the win over Saint Peter's. Pazdera currently ranks second on the team in strikeouts with 35 and has pitched a total of 35.1 innings in seven appearances this year.
Female Student-Athlete of the Week
Mia Fernandes, Marist, Women’s Lacrosse
Jr./ Port Jefferson Station, NY, Comsewogue
Junior defender Mia Fernandes has provided consistent leadership on and off the field for the Red Foxes, earning a captain role as a junior. Since arriving at Marist, she has started 36 of the 39 games she has appeared in, becoming a key piece of the team’s defensive unit. As a freshman, she earned MAAC All-Rookie Team honors after recording 15 ground balls and 11 caused turnovers. This season, Fernandes has started all 11 games and ranks fourth on the team in both ground balls (13) and caused turnovers (12). On March 28, she recorded career highs of four caused turnovers and four ground balls to help lead Marist to a 14-8 victory over Iona. In the classroom, Fernandes, an applied mathematics major, has excelled academically. She has been named to the MAAC Academic Honor Roll in each of the past two seasons, earned MAAC All-Academic Team honors last year, and has been on the Dean’s List every semester.
