BUFFALO, NY (February 9, 2022) - After the first day of the 2022 MAAC Swimming & Diving Championships, the Fairfield University men and Rider University men are at the top of the leaderboard with 70 points. On the women's side, Fairfield University scored 109 points through five events to lead the field.

On the men's side, the Stags finished out the day by winning the 800 Freestyle Relay with a time of 6:36.89. The Stags really team was comprised of Joseph Stewart, Evan Fair, Ed Hunt, and Peter Gori. The Rider men finished first in the 200 Medley Relay, with a time of 1:28.03, composed of Lucas Racevicius, David Cooper, Jack Ruggieri, and Joe Gewartowksi.
At the end of Day One on the women’s side, Fairfield University claimed the top spot after strong performances in each of the day’s relays. The Stags came in second place and second place in the Women's 800 Free Relay and third in the 200 Medley Relay, respectively.
The Niagara University women won the 800 Freestyle Relay with a time of 7:31.89 led by Katrina Wardner, Yvonne Schere, Delaney LaBue, and Moana Houde-Camirand.
In the lone diving finals of the evening, Grace Reeves claimed the top spot with a cumulative score of 246.30.
