Devereux, Rider Claim 2022 Men’s MAAC Team & Individual Golf Championships

 LAKE BUENA VISTA, FL (April 24, 2022) – Rider University claimed the 2022 Men’s Golf Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship on Sunday afternoon at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course.
 
The Broncs overcame a six-stroke deficit to finish to finish at nine over and at 873 for the 54-hole championship.
 
Rider’s Austin Devereux was the tournament’s top finisher for a second-straight season after shooting a 69 on the final day of competition to finish at three-under and a total score of 213. On Sunday morning, Devereux entered trailing by five strokes, but quickly minimized the deficit. Devereux earned the McLeod Trophy for the second-straight season.
 
Freshman Louie Giovi shot a 66 for the best round of the tournament on the final day of competition to not only help solidify the Broncs in first place, but also him helped earn the MAAC Rookie of the Year award. Giovi saved his best for last, not only shooting a 66, but the freshman scored a hole-in-one on hole 15 in the back half of the final round.
 
The Broncs championship team included Jack Urban who shot a 222 (+6), Rick van Der Nat who shot a 224 (+8), Connor Bekefi who shot a 245 (+29), and Joey Lostumbo. The Broncs are coached by Jason Barry who earned his first-ever MAAC Championship in his ninth season at the helm.
 
Iona College’s Sean Burke was named the 2022 MAAC Coach of the Year for the third time in his seventh season at the helm for the Gaels. The Gaels placed two members on the All-MAAC Team in Garrett Giles who tied Giovi as the tournament’s second-best finisher and Justin Burkhamer who placed fourth.
 
Siena College closed out the 2022 MAAC Championships with the lowest team round of the weekend (-3, 285) to claim second place on the weekend. The Saints’ three-round total is its lowest at any MAAC Championship, and the third-lowest 54-hole score in program history
