Student-Athlete of the Week 5/29/2024 12:00:00 PM Canisius’ Long and Mount St. Mary’s Vieira Named Hercules Tires MAAC Student-Athletes of the Week Male Student-Athlete of the Week Garet Long, Canisius, Men’s lacrosse R-Jr., Woodbury, MN, Woodbury A member of the men’s lacrosse team at Canisius, Garet Long competed in one game between the pipes for the Golden Griffins this season, making one save against nationally ranked Michigan in the season opener back in February. During four seasons on Main Street, Long took part in seven games, making a total of seven saves. A native of Woodbury, Minn., Long is a three-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection. He received his bachelor’s degree in finance from Canisius earlier this month, graduating magna cum laude after earning dean’s list recognition in seven of his eight semesters on campus. Long was part of the team from the Golden Griffin Fund that took part in the CFA Challenge. In February, the team won the WNY CFA Challenge to move onto the sub-regional round which they also won. The GGF advanced all the way to the regional semifinals, finishing among the top 40 schools in the world in the global competition. Female Student-Athlete of the Week Beatrice Vieira, Mount St. Mary’s, Water Polo Jr., Erie, PA, McDowell Scored the game-winning goal with seconds left on the clock and Mount St. Mary’s, in one fell swoop, defeated a ranked opponent and a conference tournament win with a 9-8 showing over #22 LIU on April 26. The utility player finished the season with 27 goals scored, along with 27 assists, 23 steals, 23 drawn exclusions, and 11 field blocks.
