Sacred Heart’s Morcillo and Canisius’ Petrie Secure Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s Soccer Weekly Awards

Coming off a winning week, Morcillo led the Pioneers with three goals and an assist for seven points on the week. He secured the lone goal against Army in the Pioneer shutout. The goal came when Aidan Borra sent a quick pass to Morcillo, who shot a perfectly placed ball from the top right of the box to the top left corner of the net. Morcillo also scored two goals and tabbed an assist in the 5-0 Pioneer shutout against Lehigh. The first goal came off the keeper's rebound firing the goal to make it a 2-0 game. His second goal came minutes later when year dribbled the ball to the top of the box before cutting left and right-footing a shot by Lehigh's keeper. His assist came in the first goal when he sent a quick pass back in the box to meet the foot of David Garcia Gallego.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Jack Petrie, Canisius

Petrie was outstanding between the pipes for Canisius this week. He recorded consecutive shutout performances in wins against Central Connecticut State and VMI. In Canisius' 3-0 win against Central Connecticut State, Petrie tallied three saves on nine shot attempts. He recorded four saves in the Griff's 2-0 win against VMI. He is tied for the MAAC lead in shutouts with two and ranks third in goals against average (1.16).
 
The 2024 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship is an eight-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 10-17, 2024. Each match during the championship will be hosted by the higher seed and all rounds of the championship will reseed. The quarterfinals will take place on Sunday, November 10, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 14, and concluding with the championship final on Sunday, November 17.
