Saint Peter’s Janneh and Iona’s Njie Jr. Named Hercules Tires MAAC Student-Athletes of the Week

Freshman Adam Njie Jr. was Iona's top performer in its 2-0 week averaging 19.5 points, 6.0 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals while shooting 58.3% from the field, 57.1% from long distance, and 87.5% from the free throw line. Njie began the week with a career-best 23-point effort in a road win at Rider Thursday night. Fifteen of his 23 points came in the final 20 minutes including all four free throw attempts in the final minute to seal the game. He added five assists, three rebounds and three steals. On Saturday vs. Siena at home, he posted 16 points and a team-best seven assists. He shot 7-for-12 in both games.

Fatmata Janneh, Saint Peter’s, Women’s Basketball

Sophomore forward Fatmata Janneh has been dominating the court in her second season as a Peacock. A true standout for Saint Peter’s, Janneh leads the team in points, rebounds, steals, and blocks, showcasing her all-around excellence. Averaging an outstanding 18.9 points and 10.6 rebounds per game, she has established herself as a dominant force in the MAAC. Fatmata Janneh recorded her season high at Fordham on November 15, tacking on 28 points. She also had a season high of 21 rebounds against NJIT on December 1. Janneh’s outstanding performances have not gone unnoticed—she’s earned MAAC Player of the Week honors four times this season (Dec. 2, Dec. 16, Dec. 23, and Jan. 13). She currently leads the conference in both points and rebounds per game. As of January 25, Janneh has recorded nine double-doubles, showcasing her dominance on both ends of the court.
