Siena’s Almeida, Iona’s Alves Schmelz and Fairfield’s Albritton Named MAAC Men’s Soccer Weekly Honorees

Lucas Almeida, Siena

Lucas Almeida recorded a hat trick in Siena's 3-1 win over Niagara on Saturday, and helped lead the team to a 1-0-1 week overall to extend the Saint's unbeaten streak to eight. The junior scored in the 23rd, 41st, and 88th minutes of the match against the Purple Eagles, with his hat trick-securing tally coming on a one-on-three breakaway. His efforts moved him atop the team lead with five goals on the season, and put him in a tie for third in the MAAC with 15 points.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Fernando Alves Schmelz, Iona

Fernando Alves Schmelz recorded a stellar week in goal for the Iona University men’s soccer team. The Lisbon, Portugal native registered two shutouts and eight saves in the 1-0-1 week for the Gaels. In the 0-0 draw against Siena on Wednesday, Schmelz recorded four saves. He followed that up with four more saves in the 3-0 road win at Rider on Saturday.
 
Rookie of the Week
Sean Albritton, Fairfield
Fr., Pflugerville, TX, Independence High School
 
Sean Albritton scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute to push Fairfield past Manhattan by a 1-0 score. The freshman came off the bench to take three shots in the match, all of which were on target. He started in Fairfield's 1-1 draw with Merrimack, taking four shots in the match. Albritton has five goals on the season with three representing game winners.
 
The 2025 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship is a six-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 9-16, 2025. Each match during the championship will be hosted by the higher seed and all rounds of the championship will reseed. The first round will take place on Sunday, November 9, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 13, and concluding with the championship final on Sunday, November 16.
